The district has a diverse land cover  including swamps, mountain ranges, game reserves, forest reserves and grass.  The steep slopes of Mt. Rwenzori ranges (forest reseve) characterise Karugutu  and Nombe Sub Counties with smaller hills (farmland) spreading into the flat  plains (grazing land).
